{"id":327,"date":"2008-11-09T11:54:29","date_gmt":"2008-11-09T18:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infmom.net\/journal\/?p=327"},"modified":"2017-03-09T09:56:53","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T17:56:53","slug":"a-time-to-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/infmom.net\/journal\/?p=327","title":{"rendered":"A time to grow"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"zemanta-img zemanta-action-click\">\n<div style=\"width: 126px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image via Wikipedia<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the aftermath of the election, I have seen people who normally are even-tempered and courteous writing messages that ought to be labeled with a skull and crossbones or a Mr. Yuk symbol.\u00c2\u00a0 These folks are livid that Obama won the election and they are predicting dire consequences for pretty much the entire universe.<\/p>\n<p>Where on earth do they get this sour point of view?\u00c2\u00a0 Judging by what I&#8217;ve seen, Fox News is a primary culprit, but there are other &#8220;conservative&#8221; news sources contributing to the flow of bile as well.\u00c2\u00a0 When Chris Wallace appeared on the Daily Show the other night, they played some clips of his Fox News colleages snickering about Obama&#8217;s aunt, the alleged illegal immigrant, and cattily wondering if she&#8217;s registered to vote.\u00c2\u00a0 Chris Wallace had the good grace to look embarrassed.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these same people greeted Dubya as a newfound saviour and gloated that their guy won, and told those of us who predicted he&#8217;d be a disaster to suck it up and get with the program.\u00c2\u00a0 Now that the predictions have come true, they&#8217;re telling us Obama will be worse.\u00c2\u00a0 Buh?<\/p>\n<p>Oh, if Molly Ivins were only still with us.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;d set them straight in short order.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, I wrote a series of posts titled &#8220;Ten ways to take a stand against ignorance.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 There is a prologue of sorts here, and the main series starts here.  One of the things I suggested was that we learn something new every day.
