Iren was my grandmother’s partner, and they lived together for the last thirty years of my grandmother’s life. I grew up listening to her practicing, which for any less accomplished pianist would have been a concert performance. Arbiter Records has begun issuing compliations of her performances, and the liner notes to the first CD (Bartok in the Desert) give a succinct account of Iren’s life.<\/p>\n
